The Administrative Core works closely with the Minority and Gender Awareness Program directors to support and expand this SDRC initiative. The Program is spearheaded by two directors, the Minority Awareness Director Roopal Kundu, MD, who also serves as Director of the Northwestern Center for Ethnic Skin and the Gender Awareness Director Teresa Woodruff, PhD, who additionally serves as Director of Northwestern's Women's Health Research Institute. The goals of the Minority and Gender Awareness program are to:
- Understand the biology of all human skin (including of ethnic and racial minorities and of women)
- Attract and recruit underrepresented minorities and women into cutaneous research
These goals are accomplished through Administrative Core support via educational programs, extensive marketing campaigns, regular administrative meetings, and designated grant support through the Pilot and Feasibility Program. In support of the Minority and Gender Awareness Program goals, the SDRC Administrative Core and Pilot and Feasibility Program have committed to the designation of one annual P&F grant focusing on a problem which addresses minority or sex issues in cutaneous biology research.
